It take me quite a long time, to think and reflect what from Cambodia will stay with me for a longer while. Now I'm sure it will be all interesting topics connected to their incredible heritage with psychedelic rock scene.
And as a yesterday was an opening of Vinatge shop where you can buy a CDs, t-shirt, postcards and posters referring to that time period lets talk about that.
And lets start from the beginning.
During the 60s and 70s a whole region was bombarded with psychedelic rock music by American Army radio stations broadcasted from Vietnam, but only in the Kingdom people connect that sounds and rhythms with their traditional music.
Three main singers flourish and they were Sinn Sisamouth who wrote more than thousand songs till now well know in Cambodian, Ran Ron very famous and popular singer who record also with Sinn and Ros Sereysothea the greatest Kingdom female singer that ever lived.
The Cambodian rock'n roll scene ended on April 17, 1975, the day the Khmer Rouge took over Phnom Penh. None of those great musical survived.
From that heritage bands like Dengue Fever from Long Beach/California and Cambodian Space Project from Phnom Penh are taking their inspiration.
I'm almost sure that with very dynamic live music scene that you can experience in Phnom Penh and all festivals that are popping up around the country - soon another Khmer John Lenon will be present.
Kingdom is ready for that.
